The police write on their website that it is about a train that has derailed near Herrstorpet south of Hultsfred.

SOS received the alarm about the accident at 18.29 on Thursday evening.

- In general, in all rescue operations, which this may be classified as given the nature of the case, it is the rescue service's primary task to work.

We act to facilitate their work.

It can be about blocking off so the emergency services can work in peace or about gathering information, says Kim Hild at the police.

Drove on trees

Katharina Seijsing, traffic manager for trains at Kalmar länstrafik, confirms that both staff and passengers are unharmed.

It is also not a total derailment.

- It's a northbound train that hit a tree just outside Hultsfred and partially derailed.

But there is no danger of the train overturning, says Katharina Seijsing.

The train has been evacuated and the rails are to be examined, to ensure that they were not damaged during the derailment.

- Traffic will be at a standstill for at least the next 24 hours, says Seijsing.

In total, there were 18 people on board the train when it hit a tree and derailed.

But no one involved was injured, according to Region Kalmar and the police.

It is unclear how long the traffic will be affected

According to Bengt Olsson, press manager at the Swedish Transport Administration, the hope is that the damage to the train tracks will be of a minor nature.

In such a case, the train traffic can possibly roll again already in connection with the morning traffic.

- But it's tiring to look at the tracks like this in the evening.

We'll see in time what they come up with and what the tracks look like.

It may be that it is just a matter of lifting the train back, says Björn Olson.

It is currently unclear how or why a tree ended up over the rails.

- It is the front wheel suspension that has jumped out.

It is not unusual for trees to blow over roads or train tracks in winter, says Olsson.
