Doctors specializing in mental health confirmed that the so-called "post-exciting depression", such as the World Cup, is nothing but an illusion and a lie refuted by science, and underestimation of a dangerous mental illness that has claimed the lives of many, noting that what fans and lovers of enthusiastic events feel It does not go beyond being an occasional sense of emptiness, which ends within a month or two of the end of the event, as a maximum.

The doctors explained that a lifestyle full of enthusiasm and suspense, and gatherings with family and friends during those occasions, for about a month, causes sudden deprivation of it in a state of great sadness and emptiness, but it does not amount to describing it as “depression”, and it does not require psychological treatment, but rather re-employment. Emptiness with various activities overwhelms this feeling.

Dr. Talaat Matar, a professor of psychiatry at the College of Medicine at the University of Ras Al Khaimah and a psychiatric consultant at RAK Hospital, said that what many describe as “post-World Cup depression” is an underestimation of a major disease that kills about 15% of those affected around the world. It is one of the most burdensome diseases on governments, because the affected group is unable to produce, and its treatment requires very high expenses.

And he stressed the existence of a big difference between depression and a sense of emptiness, which occurs due to getting used to a certain lifestyle for a period of not a short time, and depriving it of it so that a person can return to his former state, pointing out that this condition affects only those who have large areas of emptiness, whether before or after the World Cup.

Consultant psychiatrist, Dr. Muhammad Hassan Faraj Allah, said that the phrase “post-World Cup depression” is an unprofessional description that has recently spread through social media sites and pages, as an expression of the state of emptiness felt by the majority of football fans and lovers.

Dr. Muhammad Abdel-Maksoud, a consultant psychiatrist and medical director of Al-Amal Hospital for Mental Health, stated that the accurate medical description of the post-World Cup condition is that it is a psychological sense of emptiness, which is an occasional condition that lasts for a short period of time, then ends, and does not require a review of psychiatric clinics at all.

He stressed that the return of this category of fans and football followers to their normal state takes between one to two months at most, after their psychological state passes from the state of gradual withdrawal of the feelings that they have been accustomed to over a whole month, stressing the need to reschedule their lifestyle by returning to social and sports activities continuously. .

Abdul Maqsoud stressed the need to fill the void that many football fans and fans feel after the end of the World Cup, with entertainment programs and sports activities, to compensate for this sudden deprivation of the state of happiness, euphoria and suspense that was caused by the matches.
