A 50-year-old is due to appear in the first half of 2023 before the Maine-et-Loire Assize Court to answer for aggravated fatal blows to her granddaughter in February 2019 in Feneu (Maine-et-Loire).

She asked to be placed under judicial supervision pending trial.

The investigating chamber, however, decided on Wednesday that she would remain behind bars, reports

.

The decision was motivated by the exceptional and persistent disturbance to public order caused by the facts with which he is charged.

As part of this criminal case, pre-trial detention should not exceed three years but its duration has been exceptionally extended.

The accused had been found drunk at her home with the body of her 2-month-old granddaughter by her side.

An autopsy had revealed traces of bruises and at least two fractures on the infant's skull.

Two days later, the grandmother had been indicted and imprisoned.

On December 14, the fifty-year-old and her lawyer challenged the extension of the incarceration.

The accused will ultimately remain incarcerated for at least another six months.
