The star CAC 40 index fell 22.86 points to 6,450.43 points.

The day before, he had taken 0.32%.

The Parisian rating had gone down sharply in the first exchanges, falling below 6,400 points for the first time since November 10.

The Bank of Japan sent shockwaves by easing its tight control of Japanese ten-year government bond yields, the most unconventional tool of its ultra-accommodative monetary policy.

The decision "cast a chill" among investors, confirms Stéphane Renou, financial investment expert at Milleis.

They took it for granted that the institution would maintain the status quo of its monetary policy at all costs, despite the tightening implemented by the other central banks and the pressure of inflation in Japan.

The change also put pressure on interest rates.

That for the French 10-year loan took another 11 basis points to end at 2.83%, its highest level since November 8.

The trend of reduction in the volume of exchanges at the end of the year remains.

"Even if there may be jolts, volatility should decrease. For some managers, the year is already over," notes Mr. Renou.

Rates make banks happy

Banking stocks benefited from the rise in rates: Societe Generale took 2.26% to 22.90 euros, BNP Paribas rose by 1.42% to 52.94 euros, and Crédit Agricole by 0.90% to 9 .53 euros.

Companies linked to commodities also performed well, in a context of rising commodity prices.

TotalEnergies took 1.15% to 57.30 euros and ArcelorMittal 0.79% to 24.23 euros.

But the misfortune of real estate

Real estate values have been penalized by the rise in interest rates, which risks slowing down the real estate market in Europe, while the slowdown is already present in the United States.

The shopping center giant Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield (URW) lost 4.75% to 47.70 euros, Klepierre 3.17% to 21.11 euros, Covivio 1.92% to 53.60 euros, Icade 2, 06% to 38.94 euros and Gecina 2.64% to 92.05 euros.

Engie put to work

The action of the energy company Engie lost 3.30% to 13.49 euros, after having given up more than 5% at the start of the session, after the evaluation of the impact on its operating profit in 2023 of the new contribution European Commission on the profits of energy groups to an amount of between 1.2 and 1.5 billion euros.
