In nine parts and stages, Jönköping municipality now wants to develop and change Vätterstranden so that accessibility becomes greater and used by more people.

- We hope that Jönköping will become a tourist destination, says city architect Bengt Mattias Carlsson.

Among other things, it is about making more and more attractive underpasses so that Lake Vättern and the beach become more accessible.

Parks and walkways are part of it.

Cold bath house and sauna

- We want to make more beach at Talavid and hope to be able to make jetties and saunas at the Tändsticks area, says Tor Olsson, who is urban developer and project manager for the work around Vätterstranden.

The municipality has been on a trip to both Oslo and Copenhagen, as well as even larger cities that have water in their cityscape.

But smaller towns like Hjo have also served as inspiration, while the citizens have also had their say.

Toilets already for summer

As we told you earlier, 4,000 people answered the citizen survey about how they wanted to see Vätterstranden.

In the first place there came more toilets.

- Yes, they should lie along the entire beach, but we have to look where there are the most people and then it is at the eastern part.

We hope to get temporary toilets up there by the summer.

The municipality has budgeted 7-10 million for the first year.

But municipal councilor Mona Forsberg (S) does not want to speculate on what the whole vision would cost to carry out.

- I will have to come back to that.

This will become a reality, but perhaps not exactly as it has been presented today, she says.

But apart from the municipal budget, there are other conceivable obstacles.

Tor Olsson mentions, among other things, beach protection rules and climate that can affect how the municipality builds bridges, for example.
