Every year, six million trees are thrown away after the holidays.

In Lyon, a company offers to rent its Christmas tree, then bring it back and have it replanted for the following year.

An ecological solution because, as Nicolas Talliu, boss of the Plant Protection Society, explains, "we do not make single use, we respect his life".

One of the saddest images of Boxing Day.

Withered fir trees, without thorns or decorations, waiting on the edge of our sidewalks.

Every year, nearly six million trees are thrown away after the holidays.

How about giving it a second life?

In Lyon where a company offers to rent your Christmas tree.

The tree is replanted after the holidays and you can recover it the following year.

A service offered by the Plant Protection Society.

It does not cost more and it especially saves him the trash.

"We do not make single use, we respect his life"

These trees are exactly the same: Nordmann between 60 and 150 cm.

Except that they are neither cut nor planted in a wooden base.

They stay in pots like the living plants that they are.

"These are not uprooted, they are grown in pots in the ground, which allows us to suddenly keep the main roots. We do not make single use, we respect its life", explains Nicolas Talliu, Patron of the Plant Protection Society.

"We are not going to use 6 to 10 years of culture for a Christmas evening or a month of decorations, it is not just a Christmas decoration, but it is a living being."

To keep it, you have to follow a few rules.

"Sprinkle it with half a glass of water, place it as far as possible from the radiator and if not spray water on it", explains the specialist to a client.

A real ecological gesture, but also an economic choice, according to Géraldine, who comes to recover hers.

"I chose a small model that was not too bulky. And then especially in relation to the rental price which was 30 euros, we find ourselves there in relation to the price of a tree, we cut it and we have to Keep it for a fortnight. That's why I'll return it around New Year's Eve."

The same tree, a little bigger, can be rented again next year at Christmas.
