A Russian basketball player in Thailand died from electric shock on an outdoor basketball court.



According to local media, 19-year-old Alex Sobolev, a Russian national, was electrocuted on the basketball court in front of Pattaya Technical University in Pattaya, Thailand, around 10:00 pm on the 15th.



While going to pick up a ball that had gone off the court during basketball practice, he touched a pole of a light tower and was electrocuted and fell unconscious.



He was taken to the hospital when rescuers arrived, but he lost his life.



Pattaya Deputy Mayor Manote Nong Yai, who investigated the scene of the accident, said, "It was investigated that the wires were stripped and electricity flowed through the light tower poles."



Alex, who played for the local basketball club in Pattaya, became known as a promising basketball player, winning the 3-on-3 basketball tournament.



The City of Pattaya has temporarily closed all basketball courts in front of the Pattaya Technological University where the accident occurred.
