Diplomatic tension has risen a notch between Ouagadougou and Accra, after the remarks of Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, who affirmed yesterday, on the sidelines of the Africa-United States summit, that the Russian paramilitaries of the Wagner group were present at his neighbour.

But at the end of their meeting, the Ghanaian diplomat and the Burkinabe ministers showed a desire for appeasement.

Ghanaian ambassador summoned urgently by the Burkinabe government, recall of the Burkinabe ambassador to Ghana... After the feverishness, the tension falls a little between Ghana and Burkina Faso.

This is at least what emerges from the press release from the Burkinabe Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

If the disapproval of the Burkinabé government was indeed expressed after the

declarations of the Head of State of Ghana

on

"Burkina Faso's supposed links with Wagner

", the Ghanaian ambassador, according to this same press release, declared that the exit of the Ghanaian president "

did not aim to condemn Burkina Faso

", that the intention was above all to draw the attention of partners and that

"the remarks of the Ghanaian president were conditional

".

"

Ghana could have undertaken exchanges with the Burkinabe authorities

 "

Admittedly, in Washington,

Nana Akufo-Addo

was cautious in declaring: "

I believe that a mine has been attributed

" to the Russian paramilitaries, but he nevertheless clearly affirmed that "

Burkina Faso has concluded an agreement to use the Wagner forces

 ”.

However, the time has come to calm.

The Burkinabe Minister of Foreign Affairs recalls "

the historical ties and fraternity between the two countries

 " while judging that "

Ghana could have undertaken exchanges with the Burkinabe authorities on the security question, in order to have the right information

 " and that “

it would have been more interesting to initiate a dialogue between African countries, participants and non-participants, as a prelude to the summit of the United States of America

”.
