A 26-year-old man, residing in Tourbes, in the Hérault, was sentenced in immediate appearance to six months' imprisonment with a warrant of committal.

He was prosecuted for transporting an explosive product, insulting a person holding public authority in recidivism and rebellion.

He had been arrested in a state of drunkenness on the Place de la Victoire in Béziers, after the football match between France and Morocco in the semi-finals of the World Cup.

He had insulted the CRS deployed as part of the maintenance of order and had threatened them with fireworks.

He had also tried to evade arrest, while insulting the police.

He had never been incarcerated until now

“While in police custody, he initially denied having insulted the police before his arrest and having held firework mortars, recalls the public prosecutor of Béziers, Raphaël Balland.

Before being confronted with CCTV footage clearly showing him firing mortars horizontally.

At the hearing, on December 16, he acknowledged all the facts with which he was charged and explained his attitude by the effect of alcohol.

His criminal record mentioned three convictions between 2019 and 2022 for acts of contempt, theft in meetings and death threats.

But he had never been incarcerated, until now.
