Ramsis "Moosa" Assal was born and raised in Husby and meets many young people in his work as a leisure leader.

He is also a controversial Muslim influencer who, under the name Medina studenten, has over one hundred thousand followers in social media.

The name Medina student comes from his education at the Islamic University of Medina in Saudi Arabia.

Ramsis "Moosa" Assal is considered by many to stand for a strict interpretation of Islam and is at the same time a person that many young people in the Järva area look up to.

- I want them to live, the young lads.

Some I have known since they were very small, says Ramsis "Moosa" Assal, who has attended several funerals of young people who have been victims of shootings in the Järva area.

- You have to understand the context, it came at the same time, shooting after shooting, rap song after rap song, says Assal, who at the same time wants to emphasize that violence in society cannot be solved by stifling gangster rap.

A major social change is required, says Assal.

Connected to the rappers' defection

Around 2017, gangster rap broke through for the general public and has since been loved and praised.

At the same time, several major rappers have been convicted of serious crimes and linked to criminal gangs.

Several have chosen to leave music.

In connection with the defection, several have been seen together with Ramsis "Moosa" Assal in social media.

- Like all preachers and teachers, he naturally wants to reach out with his interpretation of religion.

Islam is formulated as a solution to the problems the young people he targets are grappling with, says religion professor Simon Sorgenfrei.

In a rewritten article in Expressen with the headline "Rappers leave gangs for strict Islam", Ramsis "Moosa" Assal is described as a role model and a person who teaches a very conservative doctrine to young, searching souls.

- There has been a false rumor spread, that I call them some extreme Islam and therefore they leave the music industry.

How do you react to criticism?

- It's a lie, you just have to ask them yourself.

Most of it has been about life, family, happiness, future, work, positivity, spirituality, things that make them feel good in life that they can live and survive, says Ramsis "Moosa" Assal.

“Went to him for advice”

Former gangster rapper Ille Freeway was one of those who turned to Assal in connection with his defection.

- What have I become Isis now or?

What have they made me into?

I have gone to him when I needed advice.
