This was stated during a briefing by Assistant to the President for National Security Jake Sullivan.

According to him, during the upcoming US-Africa summit in Washington, Biden intends to announce a number of initiatives related to Africa.

"The President plans to underscore his commitment to UN Security Council reform, including support for a country from the African continent to become a permanent member," Sullivan said.

Earlier, Kenyan Foreign Minister Alfred Mutua announced Africa's right to a permanent seat on the UN Security Council.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called India and Brazil worthy candidates for permanent members of the UN Security Council.
