In its daily update of the military situation, the Ukrainian General Staff said that its forces had repulsed Russian attacks on four residential communities in the eastern Donetsk region and eight in the neighboring Luhansk region.

Russia continued its attacks on Bakhmut, now largely in ruins, Avdiivka and Leman and launched two missile attacks on civilian infrastructure in Kostyantynivka, all in the Donetsk region, one of four regions Moscow annexed from Ukraine after referendums.

For its part, the British Ministry of Defense said, in an intelligence assessment, yesterday that Russia does not currently have the capabilities necessary to control new lands in Ukraine, even at a time when Moscow says that there are large areas of the east and south under its control.

The ministry said Russia is still likely aiming to extend its control over the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions, adding that it is unlikely that Russian ground forces will make significant operational progress over the next few months.
