France, Spain and Portugal officially launched the green hydrogen pipeline project between Barcelona and Marseille on Friday.

An underwater gas pipeline which should be operational from 2030. The Elysée is even pleasantly surprised by the speed of work on this file.

This mega pipeline of 500 kilometers would be a world record and with 20 million tons of hydrogen per year, it would allow Europe to reduce its dependence on natural gas.

A 2.5 billion euro project

"For the climate and therefore lowering our emissions. But also to gradually get out of fossil fuels, in particular the most emitting ones, to move towards the electrification of the European continent and to substitute hydrogen for fossil gas. The second objective is an industrialization objective And the last is an objective of sovereignty, of strategic autonomy, which supposes producing as much as possible on our soil", explains the French president.

Obviously, a project of such magnitude represents a cost: 2.5 billion euros.

If the European Union has agreed to pay half, France, Portugal and Spain will have to pay the rest.
