It was during the county government's work to catch the invasive species Canada trout that the record fish got stuck in the net.

It was 115 centimeters long and weighed a brave 17.6 kilos.

It is Sweden's largest Canadian trout caught to date.

The age of the fish has now been determined.

- We have saved the skulls from several fish and frozen them, says Malte Sjödin from the county administrative board.

The skull is then sawn open and something called otoliths, small auditory stones that sit behind the eyes, are taken out.

Then you can look under a microscope and see annual rings much like on trees.

How old was the record fish then?

- It was about 23 years old, says Malte Sjödin.

During net fishing this summer, 128 Canadian trout were caught, with a total weight of 711 kilograms.

Next year, net fishing will continue to take Canadian trout out of Lake Ånnsjön.
