The country's Supreme Court announced this on its Twitter page.

“The Supreme Court of Preliminary Investigation, under the direction of Judge Juan Carlos Chekli, has ordered seven days of preliminary arrest for ex-president Pedro Castillo, who is being investigated for rebellion,” TASS quoted the statement as saying.

It is specified that the countdown of the arrest is from December 7th.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General's Office of Peru opened a case against the dismissed President of the country, Pedro Castillo.

On December 8, the Lima police dispersed demonstrations of supporters of the former President of Peru, Pedro Castillo.

Protests began after he was removed from power.
