Washington agrees to sell 18 helicopters to South Korea

The United States announced that it has agreed to sell 18 Chinook-74F transport helicopters and other military equipment to South Korea, in a deal worth a total of $1.5 billion.

"The proposed sale will improve the Republic of Korea's ability to meet current and future threats by strengthening its military's heavy transportation capabilities," the US Department of Defense said in a statement.

It added that these helicopters will be used in particular for medical evacuation, rescue, parachute landing and natural disaster relief missions.
