- It is about a number of rare factors that led to it being like this.

This does not happen, says IT director Urban Petrén at the region.

No trespassing

According to him, there are lots of different configurations you can make in a system and under a certain circumstance where several different factors come into play, the configurations made at Region Sörmland can lead to a computer breakdown like the one that occurred on Tuesday.

- So it wasn't an exciting intrusion or anything like that.

says Urban Petrén.

Computers in the network talk to each other by giving all computers a unique IP address, but on Tuesday the computers in the region could not get an address.

- But we had some backup solutions and it was possible to connect some computers if you could rely on other routes, says Urban Petrén.

Mobile phones

One such solution was to connect via cell phones that created Wi-Fi hotspots, allowing computers to access another network.

- Now we know what happened and can and know that this can be fixed so that it doesn't happen again, says Urban Petrén.

The network disruption on Tuesday led to the cancellation of some booked visits, and to some of the region's businesses having limited capacity due to the fault.

Hospitals, health centers and public dental care were affected, among other things.
