The Christmas lights in Fagersta and Västanfors are connected to the street lighting network and are switched on and off at dusk and dawn.

It mostly consists of led lighting and so also the lights in the two ball trees.

The decision not to install them this year was taken by the municipal management in consultation with Norra Västmanland's municipal engineering association, NVK.

Karolina Berglund, Fagersta's municipal manager, does not want to elaborate on the reasoning behind the decision, but writes in an email that she is declining an interview.

Christmas in Fagersta will not be completely devoid of trees - two large natural trees with strings of lights illuminate Järntorget and Gröndalsparken as usual.
