news of the day

Ukraine suffered a new salvo of Russian missiles on Monday, which led to new power and water cuts.

Residents took shelter after hearing anti-aircraft sirens across the country for Moscow's "eighth massive attack" since the conflict began.

After the alerts were lifted, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky assured that the army had succeeded in "shooting down most of the Russian missiles".

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, more than 60 out of 70 missiles fired by Moscow were destroyed in flight.

Most of the population has had electricity only a few times a day since the Russians stepped up their attacks this fall after a series of military setbacks.

On the Russian side, the Kremlin deplored this Monday Ukrainian strikes on two military air bases.

kyiv attack drones have killed three soldiers, according to Russian authorities.

sentence of the day

Dear foreign policy makers, experts, media and academics.

I know some of you find it hard to imagine a Ukrainian victory, but we are on the way to one.

It is better to prepare now for a Russian defeat, instead of trying to explain why Ukraine cannot or must not win”

The words are signed Dmytro Kuleba.

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy tweeted this statement as Ukraine is again the victim of Russian strikes.

Since the start of the conflict, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, like its President Volodymyr Zelensky, has not hesitated to communicate regularly to remind his allies to maintain their strong support for Ukraine until the total victory of his people.

The number of the day

60. Like the number of combat aircraft shot down by Russia in Ukraine since the start of the conflict.

According to the British Ministry of Defence, the Kremlin's losses were significant last week.

Two aircraft (a Su-24M and a Su-25) have been lost in recent days.

Consequence: the air sorties of the Russian Air Force are limited and the frequency of operations should not increase again in the coming weeks.

The trend

This is the picture of the day.

Vladimir Putin drove over the Crimean Bridge which had been partially destroyed in October.

It is his first visit to the annexed peninsula in 2014 since the start of the war in Ukraine.

Russian television channels broadcast images of their head of state driving a car, claiming that he was on this bridge connecting the Ukrainian peninsula to Russian territory.

The viaduct had been damaged in October by a powerful explosion attributed by Russian authorities to Ukrainian forces.
