The

Nairobi talks

devoted to the situation in

the Democratic Republic of the Congo

were suspended on Monday December 5 at around 6 p.m.

This interruption occurred before the conclusions could be adopted during a final session.

At the end of the afternoon, most of the representatives of the armed groups present got up and simply left the gardens of the Safari Park hotel where the discussions were taking place.

For several hours already, they had taken out their chairs on the lawn to express their displeasure.

Most even refused to speak to the press, some in private complaining that their voices had not been heard enough and others that they had not received enough money to compensate them for their attendance and travel.

Half an hour later, visibly very annoyed,

Uhuru Kenyatta

, the East African Community (EAC) facilitator for this process, engaged in a real “

advocacy against the organizers

” of the meeting, but without naming them. and without further details.

In front of the delegates still present, he accused these "

organizers

" of not having released the money provided for these expenses: "

I want to say to the friends in charge of organizing this meeting: I know that we have sufficient funds, because I was one of those who sought these funds.

This money is not theirs.

It is money that must be used to bring peace to the Congo

”.

Several participants explained that they had received 350 dollars, but felt that it was not enough.

Uhuru Kenyatta therefore postponed the closing and gave an appointment to the participants this Tuesday at 10 am to resume work where they left off, provided that by then the blockage can be lifted.
