Lean is a popular drug mixture in the US and consists of a concoction of prescription cough medicine, sugary drink, candy and sometimes alcohol.
In Sweden, however, the cough medicine required to do lean is not available.
Instead, there are reports of people making their own, alternative mixtures with suppressants.
In one case in Karlstad, a person of high school age was taken to hospital because he had drunk lean.
The person must have lost both sight and speech and was unable to walk.
- It is risky in different ways because it is an approach to the world of drugs and then lean can act as a gateway to other drugs as well, says Joar Guterstam, senior physician Sollentuna Beroendemottning, Beroendecentrum Stockholm.
