The four people are accused of collusion with the Israeli intelligence service Mossad.

All four were named by Iran's state news sources when they were sentenced a few days ago - and on Sunday the executions were carried out.

Another three people were sentenced to prison for between 5 and 10 years for involvement, AP reports.

Iran's accusations are that the people who have now been executed have "stolen and destroyed private and state property" as well as kidnapped and interrogated people.

They allegedly received weapons from the Mossad and were paid in cryptocurrency.

They were arrested by the Revolutionary Guard in June this year.

Iran has claimed for a number of years that Israel sends secret agents to Iran to carry out sabotage and commit murder.

Recently, the accusations have been extended to the fact that Israel, together with the Western powers, wants to ensure that civil war breaks out in Iran, reports Reuters.

The Swedish-Iranian doctor and researcher Ahmadreza Djalali is imprisoned in Iran and was sentenced to death in 2017.

He is not one of the four named people who have now been executed.
