The members of the United Nations Security Council condemned, in the strongest terms, the terrorist attack that targeted the Pakistani embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, the day before yesterday.

In a press statement issued by council members by consensus the night before last, they wished a speedy and full recovery for the injured, and called on all concerned parties to respect and ensure the safety and security of diplomatic and consular buildings and personnel of United Nations member states.

The members of the Security Council stressed that the perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of these heinous acts of terrorism must be held accountable and brought to justice, and also stressed the fundamental principle of observing the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises, and other obligations under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, including Take all appropriate steps to protect diplomatic relations and consular premises against any intrusion or damage, as well as prevent any breach of the security of these missions, infringement of their dignity, or assault on their premises, diplomats, agents, employees and consular workers.

For its part, the Kingdom of Bahrain condemned the attempt to assassinate the head of the diplomatic mission of Pakistan in the Afghan capital, Kabul, stressing the need to protect diplomatic missions and headquarters according to the norms and charters that regulate international diplomatic work.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reported by the Bahrain News Agency (BNA) yesterday, Bahrain expressed its solidarity with Pakistan and its friendly people and its rejection of all acts of violence, extremism and terrorism that contradict moral and human values ​​and principles.

In Islamabad, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, called on the Taliban rulers to investigate and take action against the perpetrators of the assassination attempt on Pakistan's ambassador to Kabul.

Sharif said in a tweet to him on the social networking site "Twitter": "I demand an immediate investigation and action against the perpetrators of this heinous act."

The Pakistani embassy compound in Kabul was subjected to an attack on Friday, targeting the head of mission, Obaid Rahman Nizamani, and the ambassador was not harmed, but a security guard was seriously injured in the attack, according to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry.

The ministry added in a statement that Pakistan summoned the Afghan charge d'affaires to express Pakistan's deep concerns and outrage over the attack in Kabul on the head of the Pakistani mission.

"The attack was carried out by the common enemies of Pakistan and Afghanistan," the Afghan official said.

"The Afghan leadership condemns the attack in the strongest possible terms at the highest level," the statement added.

"The security of Pakistan's diplomatic missions has already been enhanced, and the Afghan authorities will spare no effort to bring those involved in this despicable act to justice," the statement continued.

The attack comes after a Pakistani delegation visited Kabul to discuss cooperation, amid escalating violence in the country and mistrust due to border clashes.
