Labrador Loki and dog handler Erik Furmark work together at the Swedish-Finnish border in Haparanda to stop, among other things, drug smuggling.

- Loki is very energetic and it doesn't matter if it's early in the morning or in the middle of the night.

He always wants to apply and work, that is his main characteristic, says Erik Furmark, who in addition to dog handler has the title of customs inspector.

"I'm proud"

Together, the team has made a total of 111 seizures during the period from the first of September 2021 to the end of August 2022. This corresponds to just over SEK 5.2 million in social benefit, according to the Swedish Kennel Club.

- I am proud of myself and Loki.

It is proof that we have done a good job, says Erik Furmark.

Cold and windy at work

Erik and Loki often help the police in their work, including house searches.

In their everyday life, they work outdoors a lot, even if it's minus 25 degrees and windy.

In the hunt for drugs and weapons, they search vehicles and passengers on buses and trains.

- We stop vehicles both at the border and out on the roads around Norrbotten for checks, says Erik Furmark.

On December 10, Erik Furmark and Loki will go down to Älvsjö to receive the award for this year's drug detection dog.
