In October, food prices rose by 17 percent compared to the same month last year, according to figures from Statistics Sweden (SCB).

A particular type of price increase that has attracted attention is so-called shrink inflation, when the size of the package decreases while the price remains the same as before.

- Right now, many people are contacting us and complaining about reduced packaging, says Maria Wiezell, consumer advisor at Sweden's Consumers.

Packaging getting smaller is nothing new.

In 2021, chips and deep-frozen seafood were the goods most affected by shrink inflation, according to a compilation carried out by Statistics Sweden.

There are no figures available yet for which goods have shrunk the most in 2022, but one group of goods stands out right now according to Maria Wiezell.

"Recently, people have mainly heard about toilet paper when they reacted to the fact that the rolls have become smaller," she says.

In the video above, hear Maria Wiezell give her tips on how to avoid the traps when shopping.
