During Friday, Kalmar Castle showed the unique floor that was discovered during a renovation of the king's tower at the castle.

- It was a breathtaking feeling when I found out.

It tingled me, says castle manager Meg Nögård.

Come along to the castle and see the floor in the clip above.

It was in 2021 that the floor was discovered.

Samples were taken on floorboards and sent for analysis.

The answer came recently.

And it showed that the wooden planks for the floor are from sometime between the years 1267 and 1273.

Can't find a similar floor in Sweden

Richard Edlund, who is a building antiquarian at the Kalmar county museum, was on holiday when he happened to open his email and found out the real age of the wooden planks.

They are thus around 750 years old.

- I really had to sit down.

It was like a dizzying feeling to think that we have an entire floor that is so old, says Richard Edlund.

What will be the next step?

- To put this floor in context.

It's a bit special.

A construction with limestone on top of the planks.

Is there anything similar?

we have not found anything in Sweden.

Is it perhaps towards Denmark that you should look, says Richard Edlund.
