“Regarding the arrival of Jessica Stern, the U.S. Special Envoy for the Advancement of LGBTQI+ Human Rights, to Indonesia from December 7 to 9, MUI has stated that it strongly rejects the presence of a special envoy,” Anwar said, quoted by Tribun News.
He stressed that of all the religions recognized in Indonesia, none tolerate LGBT practices.
“As a religious and civilized nation, we are told to respect guests.
But we also cannot receive guests whose purpose of coming is to destroy and spoil the noble values of the religion and culture of our people, ”Anwar explained.
The US State Department website claims that a special Jessica Stern will visit Vietnam, the Philippines and Indonesia to meet with government officials and "civil society representatives" to discuss human rights, including advancing the human rights of LGBT people.
