In light of talk about American reservations about supporting the government of Israeli Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu because of its announcement of security arrangements that could lead to an escalation of confrontation with the Palestinians, analysts are underestimating the importance of Washington's position, given that its unconditional support for Tel Aviv will continue in any case.

The Israeli escalation is still continuing in the West Bank and occupied Jerusalem, not to mention the increasing assassinations and arrests of Palestinians, amid expectations that this escalation will increase in light of the extreme right’s likelihood of taking over the security file in the next government that the leader of the Likud party (Netanyahu) was tasked with forming.

The Likud party, headed by Netanyahu, had agreed with the far-right "Jewish Greatness" party led by Itamar Ben Gvir to form the new government, which observers expect to be the most right-wing and hardline in Israel's history.

While some leaks indicate that the US administration has reservations about an Israeli government in which the extreme right participates, Stephen Zunes, a professor of international security and foreign policy at the University of San Francisco, confirms - to the "Behind the News" program - that the US reservation is not due to the repression practiced by Netanyahu and his team against the Palestinians, but rather Fearing for the reputation of the United States, which unconditionally supports Israel on the grounds that it is a democratic country and represents liberal values.

As for the United States, the presence of extremists in the Israeli government will cause embarrassment to it because the escalation in the occupied Palestinian territories would be a bad thing from its point of view, as it is the sponsor of peace between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, as Zunes adds, who ruled out that the Biden administration would take any concrete action against Tel Aviv, but rather It will continue to provide it with military aid and support in the UN Security Council.

Some Israelis opposed to Netanyahu's far-right government hope that the Biden administration will put pressure on this government.

Amir Oren, a political and military analyst for national security affairs and Israeli foreign policy, says that Washington knew how to express its dissatisfaction with the performance of Israeli governments, as evidenced by the fact that it prevented Ariel Sharon from taking over the Ministry of Defense after the Sabra and Shatila massacres.

No effect of the American reservation

However, the American reservations about Netanyahu's extremist government do not have any significant impact from the point of view of the Secretary-General of the National Initiative Movement, Mustafa Barghouti, because Washington - as he says - supports Israel militarily and is silent on the settlements and the crimes it commits against the Palestinians, and it is a racist-fascist and not a democratic state. .

If the United States were serious in its position - Barghouti says - it would not have satisfied itself with mere reservations, and would have dealt with Israel and imposed sanctions on it as it did with Russia because of its war on Ukraine.

In light of the new reality, Barghouti believes that the Palestinians' options lie in stopping security coordination with Israel immediately, unifying the Palestinian national ranks, uniting on a program of struggle and resistance, getting rid of the illusions of negotiations, and working in parallel to isolate Israel internationally and impose a boycott on it.

Al-Barghouti concluded by saying that the Arab peoples showed in the World Cup matches in Qatar that they stand with the Palestinian people despite the normalization of some Arab governments, criticizing the UAE's invitation to the leader of the extremist "Jewish Greatness" party Ben Gvir to visit it.
