Good evening,

The Wilhelm Leuschner Medal

is the highest award that the state of Hesse bestows.

It is named after someone who lost his life in the fight against National Socialism: Wilhelm Leuschner, SPD politician and trade unionist, Minister of the Interior of the then People's State of Hesse from 1928 to 1933, had joined the resistance against Hitler, he was intended to be Vice Chancellor the assassination attempt on July 20, 1944 was successful.

As is well known, it is not, Leuschner was denounced, sentenced to death by Roland Freisler and executed on September 29, 1944 in Berlin-Plötzensee.

The medal named after him was recently awarded to Cardinal Karl Lehmann, Joachim Gauck and – posthumously – the murdered Kassel District President Walter Lübcke, among others.

On Thursday it

was again awarded posthumously

by the Hessian Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU) , this time to the Hessian Attorney General Fritz Bauer.

He was involved in the arrest of Adolf Eichmann and had pushed through the Auschwitz trial in Frankfurt at the beginning of the 1960s, which dealt with the crimes of 22 accused in what was then the concentration camp.

It was the first time after the war that National Socialist crimes were widely discussed and noticed by large sections of the population.

Back then, Bauer had to assert himself against a lot of resistance.

And it was only long after his death in 1968 that his legacy was remembered.

Rhein

presented the medal to two of Bauer's grandnieces on Thursday.

According to the Prime Minister, without Fritz Bauer and the Auschwitz trial, Germany would be a different country – one in which he would not want to live.

"Uncle Fritz, you are a hero," said grandniece Marit Tiefenthal in her words of thanks.

And in addition

, the Hessian Digital Minister Kristina Sinemus (CDU) opposes new legal requirements for data centers in a guest article for the FAZ +++ it will be a long time before the increased housing benefit is paid out by the municipalities in the region +++ demands the Wiesbaden mayor more respect for bus drivers.

I wish you a pleasant evening

Yours, Manfred Koehler

The tip for the weekend

How about a culinary trip to Bad Homburg?

The restaurant "Lindenallee" in the Dornholzhausen district is unspectacular on the one hand: no gourmet cuisine, no eccentric location.

On the other hand, however, it is a bit special: furnished with lots of works of art, equipped with a very relaxed service and with dishes on the menu that are home-style in the best sense of the word.

Classics of the house are the beef roulades, but we also recommend the Taunus salmon trout with beurre blanc and beetroot and the strudel with Wetterau apples.
