León Wine entrepreneurs from León reject the "disgusting" campaign of the Ministry of Equality against a winery accused of sexualizing women
The
Ministry of Equality has rectified
by reversing the request to withdraw the advertising campaign of a
winery in El Bierzo
(León) which it accused of "
sexualizing the image of women for promotional purposes
".
"Reviewing the image, being a work of art of which various interpretations fit and after knowing the context of its preparation and use, we can conclude that
the request made could be disproportionate
," the Ministry explained in a statement.
From Interior they have also indicated that at no time has the artistic value of the image been questioned after the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin (DO) León rejected on Thursday morning what it considered an
"unjustified interference" and "disgusting campaign"
of the Ministry.
The image represents
a woman from behind in a bikini with red hearts on a Mediterranean beach
and is a pictorial work, like those of the other wines in the
Almázcara Majara
project , by the artist Josep Moscardó for the
Too Much Heart
godello , which the
Encima winery Wines
has been marketing with this presentation for 12 years, explained the DO.
"The functions of the Women's Image Observatory are, among others, the collection of citizen complaints and the ex officio monitoring of content considered sexist", have been justified by the Ministry of the Interior, on which the Women's Observatory depends. .
"Once the parties in this matter have been heard and the information provided by the company is known,
the request to withdraw the advertising campaign is rectified
," they concluded in the statement.
