“The fighting in Ukraine will end through negotiations,” he said.

At the same time, Petraeus noted that at the moment the Russian and Ukrainian authorities are not ready to start negotiations.

“When the time is right, the leaders of the US, EU, UK and other countries will work with Ukraine and Russia to create and implement a solution,” he concluded.

Earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping noted the need to resolve the Ukrainian crisis by political means.

Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that now no negotiations with Ukraine are possible, since Kyiv denies them.

Peskov also said that in order to start negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, Kyiv's political will and readiness to discuss the requirements previously put forward by Moscow are needed.
