It was on June 29, summer 2021, that a man was found dead in a village outside Pajala.

The man in his 60s was suspected of having forcibly caused the victim to lose consciousness and then moved the body, with the help of the woman, to a car which was then set on fire.

The man was sentenced to 15 years in prison and the woman to 8 years in prison by the Haparanda district court, but the court of appeal acquitted the couple completely of both murder and arson.

The demand for compensation

Now the woman is demanding 470,000 state compensation from the Chancellor of Justice for having been detained in two rounds for around ten months.

The woman's lawyer, Marko Tuhkanen, was tough in his criticism of the district court's verdict and gave it the assessment: "The absolute worst evidence in a murder case I have been involved in where there has been a conviction".
