During the war in Ukraine, several new Swedish voluntary aid organizations have seen the light of day.

Actors such as Operation Aid, Swedish Rescuers and Blågula bilen collect trucks, fire engines and ambulances which they fill with emergency aid and drive down to Ukraine at personal risk - sometimes all the way to the front.

There are also private zealots, for example, Kolbäck resident Jarmo Koskela has driven several aid shipments.

Many of the established aid organizations such as the Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières have aid operations running in Ukraine through local partners, says Charlotte Rydh, secretary general of the trade association Givasverige.

- It's always good to give, but if you want long-term and broad support, it's better to support an established organization.

You have to be especially careful about giving money to private bank accounts, she says.

So you can trust the collector for Ukraine

Several of the new voluntary aid organizations do not have a 90 account.

But there are ways to evaluate the organizations, says Anders Olofsgård, docent in economics who has researched aid.

Among other things, you can look at whether they cooperate with reliable partners, and whether reliable companies and organizations have been convinced to donate to them.
