• Holidays Calendar of holidays and long weekends in Spain

The first weeks of December will arrive with

temperatures higher than the normal values

for the season and

rains that can be abundant in large areas of the Peninsula

due to the entry of storms, thus changing the pattern after this colder week, as reported by the spokesman of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), Rubén del Campo.

Regarding the remainder of this week, Del Campo has stressed that the

arrival of a cold air mass will cause a drop in temperatures

, especially at night in the northern half of the peninsula.

Specifically, on Wednesday there will be frost in the Pyrenees, with records that could drop below six degrees below zero in some locations in this mountain range.

The frosts will also spread weakly to other mountainous areas and to the northern plateau, mainly.

Likewise, on Thursday the drop in temperatures will continue, also helped by the clear skies, which make the surface cooler at night.

In this way, the frosts will extend to large areas of the interior of the northern half and central area, probably continuing until Sunday.

In this sense, Del Campo has specified that

the coldest nights will be those from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday

, when in areas of the northern plateau it could drop to five degrees below zero.

The maximum temperatures in general will also remain in the interior of the northern half, below ten or twelve degrees from Wednesday to Sunday.

In addition, banks of fog could appear, mainly in the northern plateau and Valle del Ebro, which, if persistent, would leave cold weather there for a good part of the day.

In this way, over the weekend the temperatures could be up to between five and ten degrees below what is usual for the season in the north of the Peninsula.

Despite these temperatures, the AEMET spokesperson has clarified that one cannot speak of a cold wave because "for this, even lower temperatures would be needed that would affect more areas and for a longer time."

And it is that, as it has advanced, next week there will be a

very notable rise in temperatures

, which will be at values higher than normal for the time of year, something that

could also be maintained during the following week.

rain and snow

On the other hand, Del Campo has indicated that the rains this Wednesday will be limited to the western third of the peninsula, although some showers are not ruled out on the Catalan coast and the Balearic Islands, while the snow level will be around 1,400 meters.

By Thursday, a storm located around the Gulf of Cádiz will leave some showers with storms in Western Andalusia and in the area of the Strait.

Also, showers are expected in the peninsular Mediterranean and Balearic archipelago.

In addition, the rains will probably be more intense in parts of the Valencian Community and it will also rain in the north of the Canary Islands and .

It will continue to rain in the Canary Islands on Friday and the probability of showers will continue in the peninsular Mediterranean area and in the Balearic Islands, with a snow level that will drop to approximately 1,000 meters in the Pyrenees.

However, Del Campo has indicated that significant snowfall is not expected in this mountain range for Friday.

Already on the weekend,

Saturday and Sunday, the presence of an Atlantic storm to the west of the peninsula

could lead to precipitation, especially in the southwest of the peninsula, that is, in Andalusia, Occidental, Extremadura and western Castilla-La Mancha , being able to spread to nearby areas.

In this regard, the AEMET spokesman has indicated that "there is still uncertainty about the final position of the storm and therefore about the regions that will reach, or rather, that will receive more rain."

In addition, on Saturday some showers will still be possible in the Mediterranean arc and in the Balearic Islands, as well as in points in the north of Aragon and Catalonia, with a snow level that could drop below 800 meters there.

More precipitation for next week

Next week the

rainfall will spread to large areas of the Peninsula

as a result of the

passage of Atlantic storms

that will give rise to the arrival of what is known as warm winds, humid and temperate winds.

With them, the most abundant rains will occur in the southwest of the peninsula,

especially in western Andalusia, Extremadura, and around the Central System

.

On the other hand, in the Cantabrian the rains will be scarcer.

This atmospheric pattern, although still uncertain,

could also continue the following week, that of December 12 to 18

, which, according to Del Campo, "would help to partially alleviate the situation of

meteorological

drought

that Spain has been experiencing since practically the beginning of year".
