One late evening in June, a taxi driver picks up a drunken woman at Stureplan.

He drives to a parking lot and rapes her.

The woman says afterwards that it hurt and that she cried.

In September, the man was convicted of rape and he has since been deprived of his liberty.

The court has taken into account the fact that he is presumed to lose his taxi license when determining the penalty, but our review shows that the Swedish Transport Agency missed the verdict.

- It could be the human factor behind it, says Henrik Julin.

Pressed her hand against his sex

A driver who was not deprived of his liberty, and therefore able to continue driving, is the man in his 20s who last year drove a young woman from a party.

She was sitting in the front seat and he then took her hand and moved it several times towards his sex.

Despite the fact that the man was convicted of sexual harassment in May, he has been allowed to keep his taxi license.

He is also convicted of violating the traffic regulations in October 2021.

Processing takes several months

In a survey, SVT has found a total of 17 taxi drivers convicted of sexual offenses in the past year.

15 of them have got rid of their taxi licenses - however, several months after conviction in almost all cases.

The Swedish Taxi Association is critical of the long processing time at the Swedish Transport Agency, and believes that identification should be taken care of while a driver is being investigated by the police.

According to Henrik Julin, it takes time before the authority receives the information from the courts.

- I understand that it can be perceived as strange, but as the legislation looks like, we cannot act on suspicions.

It's unfortunate, but that's the way the rules are right now.
