FAZ editorial photographer Lucas Bäuml was honored for this shot on Wednesday in the Hessian state parliament at the award ceremony of the "Press Photo Hessen-Thuringia 2022" competition.
The recording received the 500 euro prize in the “Environment & Nature” category.
For the 16th time, the German Association of Journalists announced the competition for regional photojournalism and awarded photos in seven categories.
Bäuml's photo was taken at the end of July during a report on the effects of the dry summer on rural areas in Hesse.
According to the jury, it uses compressed imagery to illustrate the needs of agriculture.
A photo taken on behalf of the FAZ also received an award in the “Culture & Society” category: a picture by Frank Rumpenhorst of the open-air cinema on the terrace of the Opera Tower as part of the Lights Film Festival.
