The office in the National Assembly of the deputy of the 8th constituency of French people abroad - which notably covers Israel, Greece and Italy - was searched on Tuesday, we learned from the same source.

The investigation was entrusted to the OCLCIFF (Central Office for the Fight against Corruption and Financial and Tax Offences) in November 2021, said the Paris prosecutor's office.

According to BFMTV, investigators suspect irregularities in the remuneration of its parliamentary collaborators, and the investigation is linked to a report from Tracfin.

“Investigators came to my office in the context of questions relating, according to them, to the remuneration of my parliamentary collaborators. I am obviously at the disposal of the prosecution to provide all the supporting documents or useful documents which will establish the perfect regularity of their situations and my total probity", reacted Mr. Habib in a press release.

"With regard to alleged irregularities in the electoral campaign, these are defamatory remarks against which I have seized the competent courts, in particular the Constitutional Council", added the deputy.

During the legislative campaign, a diplomatic note, published by Le Canard enchaîné, estimated that Mr. Habib "engages in practices whose legality could be questionable".

Meyer Habib, close to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, sat in the UDI group during the previous legislature.
