In order to avoid controversy, Unesco honors above all traditions, practices and know-how to be safeguarded.

Also, it does not recognize that the baguette belongs to the intangible world heritage, but rather that "the craftsmanship and the culture of the baguette" are part of it.

For several years, the bakery sector has been asking the French authorities to register the baguette as an intangible heritage of humanity.

In January 2018, Dominique Anract, president of the National Confederation of French Bakery and Pastry, met President Macron to express his concerns about the decline in quality of French bread and the non-compliance with manufacturing rules.

With this decision, the Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee of Unesco should therefore succeed in contributing to one of the jewels of French gastronomy, the baguette being one of the most famous products in the world.

France 24 has repeatedly had the opportunity to mention this product and the bakers.
