An investigation was opened, after the complaint lodged by a family for involuntary attack on the life of a domestic animal, at the gendarmerie of Crécy-la-Chapelle (Seine-et-Marne).

His 6-year-old dog was shot dead on Saturday during a hunting trip in Coutevroult.

The shooter defended himself by claiming to be confused with a boar, reports

Le Parisien

.

It was the hunters themselves who rang the doorbell of the owners of the German Shepherd to inform them of this accident.

They led the couple to the lifeless body of the animal, which was shot in the head.

The hunt, authorized, took place on private land, near homes.

The dog was wandering in the hunting area

Usually, hunters warn the family to lock up their dog.

But on Saturday they didn't and the animal would have ended up in the middle of the hunting area.

The masters of the German Shepherd have approached the Brigitte Bardot Foundation.

The French Office for Biodiversity is also involved with the investigators.

For its part, the Federation of hunters of Seine-et-Marne assures the

Parisian

that the shooter will be sanctioned if he is recognized as responsible for the death of the dog.
