An accident that occurred overnight from Sunday to Monday on the A7 motorway, near Tain-l'Hermitage (Drôme), allowed the gendarmerie to seize a large quantity of drugs.

The people who were on board fled, leaving the goods inside the vehicle, reports France Bleu Drôme Ardèche.

A motorist had given the alert around 2 hours after witnessing the accident.

He had seen a vehicle hit the guardrail violently on a bend.

Arrived on the scene, the gendarmes found the abandoned car with 400 kg of cannabis resin in the trunk.

An investigation was opened and entrusted to the research brigade of Romans-sur-Isère and the research section of Grenoble.

The occupants of the vehicle had still not been found on Monday afternoon.
