Qatar Energy signed an agreement with ConocoPhillips to export liquefied gas to Germany for a period of 15 years, starting from 2026.

Saad bin Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs of Qatar, President and CEO of Qatar Energy, said that the agreement will provide Germany with two million tons of liquefied gas annually, arriving from Ras Laffan in Qatar to the liquefied gas station in northern Germany.

Al-Kaabi added that Germany represents the largest gas market in Europe, stressing commitment to support its energy security.

Al-Kaabi added that the supply of liquefied natural gas will come from the two projects to expand the production of liquefied natural gas in the North East Field and the North South Field, and indicated that today's agreement represents the first long-term supply agreement for liquefied natural gas to Germany.

He also said, "We are committed to contributing to supporting energy security in (Germany) and in Europe in general. We have demonstrated this commitment through large investments in various stages of the gas industry, which included projects to raise our production capacity of liquefied natural gas in Qatar, and the development of the Golden Pass project for export liquefied natural gas in the United States.

Al-Kaabi continued, "We implemented the largest program to build LNG carriers in the history of the energy sector, and we contracted long-term commitments in the infrastructure for receiving, storing and distributing LNG in a number of European countries."

He explained that "Qatar separates politics from trade," noting that today's agreement was concluded with an American company to sell liquefied natural gas to Germany.

On October 30, Qatar Energy announced the selection of the American "ConocoPhillips" as a third and final partner in the North South Field expansion project, which includes two giant lines for the production of liquefied natural gas with a total capacity of 16 million tons annually.

It is noteworthy that Qatar Energy had signed a few days ago an agreement to supply the Chinese "Sinopec" with 4 million tons annually of liquefied natural gas for a period of 27 years, starting in 2026. This agreement is the longest of its kind in the history of liquefied gas deals.

Qatar is the largest exporter of liquefied natural gas in the world, and the North Field expansion project will enhance its position and help it ensure long-term supplies of gas to Europe, which is seeking to find alternatives to Russian gas.
