A firefighter from the Saint-Gervais-les-Bains barracks (Haute-Savoie) died last Sunday while on his way to an intervention, reports BFMTV.
The tanker he was in was forced to stop due to snow.
A member of the crew remained at the wheel while four firefighters, including the victim, were busy placing chains on the wheels.
The vehicle then backed up and overturned on the 61-year-old man.
This accident occurred shortly after 1:15 p.m., at the Col de Voza.
An investigation has been opened by the Bonneville prosecutor's office to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy.
The rescuers had to go to a chalet hosting a restaurant and in the grip of flames.

Le Dauphiné Libéré
, the firefighters came to the end of this fire.

The deceased sixty-something was married and the father of three children.
The colleagues of this former police officer, very shocked, have not yet been heard by the investigators.
"He was a deeply nice person who was always mobilized for others," says Jean-Marc Peillex, mayor of Saint-Gervais, to the newspaper.
Very great sadness at the announcement of the death, this day, in Saint-Gervais-les-Bains of a volunteer firefighter on duty, while he was intervening for a fire in a mountain chalet-restaurant.
