• Courts The Government places a defendant for organizing 1-O at the head of the Port of Barcelona

"Together with my defense we are convinced that the accusations will end up falling and I do not work with any calendar that is not that of the Port. To justice you know how you enter but never how you leave."

In this way, the new president of the Port of Barcelona, Lluís Salvadó, downplayed his prosecution for organizing 1-O and that he will be seated on the bench of the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) next year for the crimes of prevariation , embezzlement and disobedience.

He believes that his work at the head of the Barcelona Port Authority will not be affected by this trial, which is why he is committed to "continuity" in the projects started by his predecessor, Damià Calvet.

Salvadó was presented this Monday while waiting for the Government to formalize its appointment proposal and the Government to give the green light, which could happen at the end of the week.

This Tuesday Salvadó will leave his act of deputy for ERC in Parliament.

The circumstance occurs that when the Prosecutor's Office presents the indictment, which could happen in a few days, and the TSJC sets the trial date, the deputy should have been suspended by the Parliament, so in this way the cost is saved. Procedure.

It will be necessary to see if ERC replaces the other deputy of his prosecuted party Josep Maria Jové.

In addition to the prison sentence, the two could be asked to be disqualified from holding public office.

Jové and Salvadó are prosecuted for allegedly organizing 1-O and laying the foundations for State structures and adequate financing for when Catalonia had independence "when they were responsible for the Economy and Finance of the Government in 2017. The two are part of the nucleus closest to the then Vice President Oriol Junqueras.

However, this Monday Salvadó was presented as president of the Port of Barcelona by the Regional Minister for Territory, Juli Fernàndez, and his predecessor, Damià Calvet.

Salvadó pointed out that he will bet on a continuist approach: "When I talk about reprioritization I am talking about what all institutions and companies are obliged to do in the face of unforeseen changes that are taking place."

"At no time did we leave the institution in a power vacuum, on the contrary," said the minister who highlighted the rapid transition between Salvadó and Calvet.

The first challenge to be faced by the Port will be the organization of the America's Cup of Sailing and it did not forget to build bridges with Barcelona City Council on the controversial issue of cruise ships: "Obviously, the Port of Barcelona must carry out its policy. Cruise ships They are a strategic project for the country and how in everything you have to find a balance point".

Despite this, he urged "dialogue" to "find a way for everyone to feel comfortable, especially Barcelona City Council."
