For more than half a century, the national song was strongly present in the history of the Emirates, to instill enthusiasm in souls and gather hearts around the unified flag, starting with the national anthem, which was limited for 15 years to a piece of music to be “Salute the Flag”, written by the Egyptian artist. Saad Abdel-Wahhab, the nephew of musician Mohamed Abdel-Wahhab, until the poet Aref Al-Sheikh was chosen to compose lyrics in line with the melody of national peace music, and the Council of Ministers approved it in 1986.

"We will protect the union"

Also, in 1977, musician Saad Abdel Wahhab presented the anthem “We Will Protect the Union”, which was associated in the memory of the seventies and eighties generation of Emiratis and residents with memories of the early years of the federation, and the rapid achievements it witnessed led by the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. May God bless his soul.

The song is written by Ali Al-Shurafa, composed and sung by Saad Abdel-Wahhab.

"Hayyak in my country"

As for the song “Hayyak in my country”, which is one of the first songs presented by the artist Abdullah Belkhair, it represents an early example of tourist songs, through which the singer invites people to visit his country and welcomes them there, as he sings about the beauty of his homeland and its advantages, and it was written by the poet Kuwaiti Bader Al-Bouresli, composed by the late Marzouq Al-Marzouq, and directed by Abdullah Darwish.

For 51 years, songs that sang about the homeland, the union, its achievements, its championships, its leaders, and its people were repeated, and were characterized by their strong rhythms that instilled feelings of enthusiasm in the souls, filling the hearts of their listeners with pride and pride, including the song “My money is with the world forever, my dirt”, which was known as the song “Ya Baladi”. Sung and composed by Jaber Jassim, and written by the Kuwaiti poet Abdul Mohsen Al-Rifai.

And “Our Young State”, sung and composed by the artist Mohamed Hassan, and the words of Ahmed Ali Obaid Al-Saadi.

And the song “In the Heart Your Love Takes Root, O My Country”, written by the poet Ali Al-Khawar, and sung and composed by the artist Mehd Hamad in their first collaboration, and that was in 1989. Al-Khawar presented many national songs and operettas, including the song “I am a soldier” sung by the choir and composed by Abdullah Al-Shehhi, as sung by Dibba Al-Harbiyya Band, and children sang it on national occasions.

The song “God, O House of Zayed” in 2008 achieved wide fame and a great place in the memory and hearts of the people of the Emirates.

The Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination has translated the official national and promotional songs of the United Arab Emirates and brotherly and friendly countries into sign language. With the Disabled Association in the Kingdom, in addition to filming the song “Long Live Egypt” in sign language by the deaf members of the Zayed Foundation, to emphasize the depth of brotherhood between Egypt and the Emirates, at the official and popular levels, in parallel with the song “Abu Dhabi is not” in sign language performed by people of determination affiliated with the Office of People with Abilities And the inspiration of the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports.

A renewed march

With the progress of the state’s march and the multiplicity of its achievements and the heroics of its children, the national song continued to keep pace with this progress and express it, and to devote the meanings of belonging and pride to the homeland and its leaders in the hearts of adults and children, through the words, melodies and voices of a large elite of poets, composers and artists from the Emirates and from various Arab countries, who were keen to Presenting many national songs and operettas in the country’s celebrations of Union Day and Flag Day, and other occasions that are cherished by every Emirati and resident on the land of the Emirates, and among these artists, Ali Kanoo, Fayez Al-Saeed, Hussein Al-Jasmi, Ahlam, Aida Al-Minhali, Aryam, Harbi Al-Amiri, Abdul Moneim Al-Amiri, Saeed Salem, and others Many.

And the celebration of “Union Day” continues to witness the release of many distinctive songs every year.

On the other hand, the arena still lacks organized efforts to track and document the national song march in the Emirates, and the matter is limited to individual initiatives to preserve old songs.
