Cameroon: several dead after a landslide in Yaoundé

A land subsidence during a funeral ceremony in Yaoundé, Cameroon, killed at least 11 people this Sunday, November 27, according to the governor of the Center region.

Several families were living in large tents at the top of a hill in the Damascus district, on the eastern outskirts of the capital, when the ground partially subsided under the event.

According to Naseri Paul Bea, the governor of the region of which Yaoundé is the capital, 11 people died.

"

Research is continuing to find other bodies under the ground

 ," said the governor who is on site on national radio and television.

“ 

It's a meeting of people who wanted to mourn members (of their families) who left before them.

Some were sitting in a tent where there was a landslide in the early evening

 ,” he continued.

This Sunday evening, many rescuers were present on site to search for survivors of the landslide.
