Last year, a father reacted to the fact that his son, who has a diagnosis of add, needed to undergo a drug test at the child and youth psychiatry, BUP, in connection with obtaining a medical certificate for his driver's license status.

When a medical document is issued for a driver's license permit, drug freedom must be certified, something that staff at BUP interpreted as meaning that a drug test needs to be done, although this is not the case.

In the summons from BUP, it is written about the urine sample;

"This is always done before the driver's license certificate is issued."

Accepts criticism

Anneli Blom, section manager at child and youth psychiatry, says that this has happened a handful of times, something she regrets.

- We appreciate that the business is reviewed, it gives us the opportunity to see things that are not appreciated by our patients and relatives.

Not the first time

JO has previously criticized certain regions that had a routine of supervised drug testing for people with ADHD to receive treatment with centrally stimulating drugs.

In that decision, the JO held that BUP is not justified in routinely demanding drug tests - a method of assessment they rely on even in the current case.
