Reducing the number of foreign students may lead to bankruptcy of British universities

A British immigration policy adviser warned that universities could go bankrupt if the British government cut the number of foreign students in an attempt to reduce the number of immigrants arriving, according to the British news agency "BA Media", on Friday.

Government Advisory Committee on Migration Chairman Professor Brian Bell said Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's potential plan to clamp down on international students obtaining "low-quality" degrees could "push many universities over the brink", especially in poor areas.

Professor Brian Bell told BBC Four's Today programme: "On most courses most universities lose money teaching British students and make up for it by charging international students more."

"If you close the way to international students, I'm not sure how the university can survive."
