The right to abortion soon integrated into the French Constitution?

The National Assembly voted, Thursday, November 24, by a large majority in favor of the inclusion of the right to voluntary termination of pregnancy in the Basic Law, by adopting a proposal from La France insoumise (LFI) supported by the majority.

The deputies adopted by 337 votes against 32 a compromise text, in the hope of obtaining the approval of the Senate, essential for a constitutional reform.

With this abortion protection text, included in the one-day program reserved for LFI in the hemicycle, it is a question of "preventing a regression" such as that which took place recently in the United States or elsewhere in Europe, pleaded the leader of the LFI group, Mathilde Panot.

In front of a provided hemicycle, she quoted Simone de Beauvoir: "It will be enough for a political, economic or religious crisis, for the rights of women to be called into question."

Left and majority agreed at midday on a common formulation for the inclusion of the right to abortion in the Constitution, in its article 66: "The law guarantees the effectiveness and equal access to the right to 'Abortion."

Mathilde Panot welcomed a "historic victory", which she dedicated to "American, Polish and Hungarian" women.
