Switzerland won 1-0 against Cameroon in their

World Cup debut.

Many were waiting for the debut of the "green lions", the lions of Cameroon.

A much loved team (even

Buffon said he was rooting for them

).

A team of outsiders who have made it into the elite of football.

Cameroon was the first team to reach the quarter-finals in 1990, but that year history will always remember

the victory against reigning champions Argentina

The first chance for the greens comes in the 10th minute.

Mbuemo escapes vertically and engages Sommer with his left foot, the ball reaches Toko-Ekambi who kicks high.

The match continued balanced and fair, with ball possession exactly halfway through the entire first half.

In the 30th minute Switzerland reversed the attacking wingers: Shaqiri went to the left, Vargas to the right.

Cameroon holds up very well against the Swiss who are slower than expected, supported by the vuvuzela who appeared at the Al Janoub Stadium.

In the 35th minute Cameroon got his first yellow card for Collins Fai who fouled Elvedi.

And we all go to rest after 2 minutes of recovery.

Qatar World Cup 2022: Switzerland-Cameroon, Breel Embolo scores the goal for Switzerland

Switzerland prevailed in the second half.

Immediately after the restart, after 3 minutes, Xhaka widens for Shaqiri, who from the right serves a low shot in the center for Embolo who sends in from close range taking advantage of the double sleep in marking by N'Koulou and Castelletto.

Ironically it is Breel Embolo himself who unlocks the result.

A Cameroonian naturalized Swiss footballer since 2014, striker-winger for Monaco.

He chooses not to cheer, and almost apologizes, raising his hands, out of respect for his country of origin.

And #Embolo is immediately a hashtag and a symbol of respect on Twitter.

Then a heart addressed to all the stands.

After the lead, Switzerland played better, even coming close to doubling on several occasions with Vargas and Seferovic.

Cameroon proudly tried until the end to equalize, but failed the two most delicious chances with Choupo-Moting and with the Neapolitan Anguissa.

In the 89th minute Xhaka tries to surprise Onana from distance, but the

Inter goalkeeper relaxes and blocks.

In the recovery, Switzerland is one step away from doubling with Seferovic, miraculously walled up by Castelletto from a few meters away.
