"We continue to live in a time characterized by crises.

War in our immediate area contributes to rising prices for fuel and food, which in turn strongly affects the municipal economy".

This is how Borgerlig samverkan, M, KD and L begin in Norrköping, when they summarize the situation in the amendment budget that the parties presented on Thursday.

Tough situation

It is a tough situation for the municipal economy in Norrköping, according to the parties.

- Just like all other municipalities, we have high interest rates and high inflation, which means that we are faced with increased costs in 2023, so that is why we are in this situation, says Sophia Jarl (M), chairman of the municipal board.

The boards must save a total of SEK 81.9 million and in most cases are allowed to set the priorities themselves.

Despite this, the governing body expects a deficit in the economy in the coming years.

No one is being made redundant at the moment, but positions that become vacant must be evaluated and may be left vacant.

- We have a number of natural retirements in the future and then we may not look for new staff but we will have to relocate within the municipality.

Then we may not be able to fill new posts in the future, says Sophia Jarl (M), chairman of the municipal board.

Food support

The Health and Care Board, the Education Board and the Skills Supply Board must save the most money.

The latter handles, among other things, grants such as subsistence allowance.

- We have had a very good trend in the municipality of Norrköping where we have turned a high dependence on grants to something lower and therefore we have made and were able to make the savings we are making at the competence supply board, says Sophia Jarl (M), chairman of the municipal board.
